Help Using my new Ferret

So I go tmy Ferret today and the instructions say:

"Pulse injection timing readings will generally be before TDC and 7 to 10 degrees before luminosity timing readings"

So I've read that what I want is 8.5 degrees BTDC, do I have to modify that to use this pulse detector?

I set my timing lite to 8.5. There is no offset using the pulse adapter.

8.5 is what you st the timing light for, don't over think the thing
that's if you want it right on the factory spec, if you want it to run better on the new fuel, try closer to 9.7

So help me to undrstand this timing we do. I install my dampner probe in the holes closest to the water pump. Then I adjust my snapon timing lite to whatever I want. This usually is 9.5 DBTDC and I'm using the lower hole where a probe "could" fit because it has the mark on the tab. I hope this is correct... Calvin, Is this correct or anybody else with some timing background???
