HELP! NO BRAKES!

Was on my way to work this morning when my brakes stopped working, i would press the pedal down and it would hiss and stop me once, then after i let the pedal out it would be really stiff.

If i let off the brake pedal for a minute or so, the brakes would work again once, (again with the hiss, then get stiff the second time)

I will note that it was 1deg F this morning. so i dont know if something is just frozen or not.

there is fluid in the resivoir and the front has new everything, (pads, calipers, rotors, brakes lines.)

vacuum pump died?? hard pedal, normally means vacuum died. sounds like it!! and the dash light for brakes, may not come on, to tell you this..

My pump has been MIA for a while now, and the light comes on from time to time with no reason, going down the road, turn your heater on vent and see how long it takes for it to switch from the defroster to the vents, if it even does.

where can i get a vaccum pump from that isnt gonna cost me an arm and a leg? everything looks not avail or like 250 bucks

I took off the vac hose on the booster and started the truck up, there is definitly vaccum. so I'm thinking it has to be the brake booster correct?

I was thinking booster at 1st. Do you have a vacuum gauge? It may be a leak in a hose or the vacuum canister (usually a coffee can looking thing) might have a leak. They can rust out.

neat trick, fill a jar with marshmallows about 1/3 of the way up and mark it with a sharpie. apply vacuum hose, make a mark when the mallows finish expanding, measure between marks, that is inches of vacuum. good part is you have a tasty snack when you are done.
