headlight help

ok lights dont work high or low beams
but i still have markers and all
now i checked the switch it has power where it should only one i cant figure out is one connector has no voltage no matter what its the back center pin
where else should i check?
do the headlights have a fuse?
and does anyone have a diagram for the headlights?

So far as I know, there is no fuse for the head-lights.

There is, however, a circuit-breaker contained within the switch; which, by the way, was cause for the "head-lights suddenly going out" syndrome in several year-models of Ford products.

There may also be a fusible-link under the hood, near the starter-relay/solenoid; but, if you have power at the switch, then that cannot be the problem.

Head-light switch ON, check for power at the dimmer-switch.

x3 (since Midnight Rider said it too)...IIRC it's a pretty common failure. I had that problem when I first got my truck...if I turned the high beams on, the lights would fail altogether after a couple of minutes.

I believe the circuit breaker is internal to the headlight switch and can't be replaced on its own...you're going to need a new headlight switch. If you're in a financial position to do so, now would also be a good time to do the headlight relay mod

i just replaced the switch and pigtail thats why i want the wiring diagram to check that one with no power

do yourself a favor for down the road and do the headlight relay mod. I grantee you wont every have to put another headlight switch in and your lights will be brighter

i also posted all the wiring diagrams on here somehwere..dont think they ever made it to the tech articles.

Didn't realize you had already replaced the headlight switch...have you checked the dimmer (high/low beam) switch on the floor yet? You'll want to make sure that there's power getting to the switch, and that there's continuity between the appropriate terminals in the switch in both positions (i.e. continuity between the feed line and one of the output terminals with the switch in one position, and to the other output terminal with the switch in the other position).

Don't have a wiring diagram handy, unfortunately

the one with no power at all is probly a ground for the reostat for the dash dimmers.

Check the fender mounted solenoid - same thing happened to me and it was corroded ires there. I had blinkers and brake lights, but no dash or headlights.

thanks for the link alien i got a manual but for the life of me cannot locate the damn thing and i had about 40 pages printed out in there that were not in the book
