Are they really worth putting in when you turbo your engine? I need to do a head gasket swap anyway, because one of my heads is toast. Since I need new ones, I figured I'd upgrade a little and not have to worry about quality. What's the best place to get the head studs and main girdle studs?

While I'm at it... where do you get thicker head gaskets to help lower compression a little with the turbo swap?

Well your not going to find any thicker head gaskets for any of these idi engines. Nobody makes them but... The felpro head gaskets are the thickest you will find. I think my mearsurement was around 76 thous and crushes to 72 or so.... ARP seems to be the only place to get a set of studs for the 7.3 engine. Usually we just buy a 7 inch stud from them because they didn't untill recently have an actual set for us... Thats a good thing. A member tried to make a set but it was not a sucess. Ken at DPS in Ill has made sets before. You might call him and ask. I assisted him in the first stud design. They worked great and were 270,000 psi H13 studs. When I tried to reuse them in another build they broke... I even shared them with the ARP engineers and they could not tell me why they broke...:dunno As for a main stud girdle... No need. These bottom ends can handle way more hp and torque than we can make. BTW everything in the bottom ends are shared between the 6.9 and the 7.3 with or without a turbo. Thats a tuff bottom end.
