Hi, after reading the 130 amp alt install on the idi tech articles(about four different times) I went looking on ebay for parts for all types of 7.3's (idi and PSD). I came across a 130 amp PSD alt for about 80+15 shipping with no core charge.
I went over to my buddys house this morning and looked at three of there PSD's to see if it might be a direct bolt up. Shure looks the same except for maybe the wiring. (They have a 95, 97, and 00) Might try to talk him into letting me swap alt to see if it would work later on in the week. Was wondering if there is any thing wrong with trying this?
Thanks
Also: I have serpentine belt setup on my 93.

I will not work if your truck is multi V belt......If memory serves, serpentine belts began in late '92 just after the OBS body change in late '91...I have seen a few OBS with multi V belt setups..

PSD Alternator

I put the alt from a 96 PSD on my 93 IDI. I just had to change the pulley.
Both were serpentine belts, but number of ribs were different.

The idi serpentine belts are 6 rib. The psd are 7 or 8 rib belts. Otherwise they just bolt on the mount for the serpentine belt trucks. These serpentine belt setups can be installed on any year 6.9 or 7.3 motor.

The statement I posted above will work but... A serpentine belt alt is only going to fit the serpentine belt mounts found on those motors. No, You can't install the V-belt pulley on a psd alt because it wont mount to the V-belt mounts found on the early idi motors. The pulley may fit the alt but then what??? Sorry for the confusing posting....

well since the OP already has the serpentine belt setup on his truck then yes the PSD alternator will bolt up to his bracket.just have to change the pully as the psd belt has 1 or 2 more ribs than the idi belt.the wireing should be the same as well.
