great.... weird vibration

ok so me and my friend were driving around and now my truck starts to make a weird vibration from time to time, it feels like your hitting the drunk bumps on the side of the freeway, it only does it briefly and randomly. my hypothesis is somthing in the drivetrain going bad from when we bound up the mismatched axles, not knowing their mismatched. maybe a u joint going bad or my rear end starting to puke? or possibly torque converter going out? any input?

make sure your front driveshaft isn't spinning. if it is, you may have a hub that locked itself from the bind(or you forgot to unlock the hubs?). You could try raising each wheel and spinning it and checking if the front driveshaft turns. that will be the culprit.

If your driveshaft is spinning, that also means your front gears are spinning. If I remember your other post, your shop teacher said he suspected a few teeth on the ring gear were toast? If that's the case, and a hub is locked/bound, you may be getting the vibes from metal in the teeth or bearings of the differential while driving.

make sure you do not lock the hubs or put the truck in 4wd until you get the differential cleaned out and the axleshaft(s) fixed. You don't want anything spinning in there.

check to make sure your driveshafts are bolted in tight also. You can jack it up and block it securely and run it to see if its in the drive train or in the front end

that would actually make sense, thing i dont understand is, we parked the truck for about an hour then drove it again and it didnt do it again. now im noticing when i hit bumps and accelerate theres some small shaking and vibration coming from under the tranny well in the cab doesnt sound too good but any advice would be nice.

I'm leaning towards the rear driveshaft and more specifically the carrier bearing. of everything these allow the most movement when going out which would be responsible for a shake or vibration.

vibrations/noise travels so don't concentrate too much on exactly where it's coming from while driving. the drive shaft will carry sound from the axle to the tcase/trans. I'm not saying to ignore where you're hearing it from, but just that it can be misleading at times.

I once had a loose ujoint strap on my drive shaft down at the rear axle and I was hearing/feeling vibrations in my transmission. Once the drive shaft let go, the source was quite clear .

And as sootman stated, the carrier bearing(aka pillow block) that carries the rear driveshaft between the tcase and rear axle could also be culprit although I'd wonder if that would be more prevalent during acceleration/deceleration. I currently have a sloppy carrier bearing and although I don't get much feedback from it now, if anything else was worn or loose(ujoints, etc) I'm sure it would cause increased vibrations.

I didn't think the regular cabs had carrier bearings as that would have been my first suggestion

anyways did some inspection today in shop class, checked the u-joints and theres no slop or give in them at all, had the instructor have a look, he said he noticed my tranny mount was slightly tweeked which im now wondering if thats the culprit, the mount bolts appear to be a little crooked and theres a clean spot on the crossmember that looks like its where the mount cushions on the bottom side SHOULD have been. he also said there was some slop in the tie rods which he said could also be a possibility. as for the vibrations in the tranny well, im gonna guess its the tranny mount thats responsible for that.
