ok anything i need to know about running bio?in theprocess of diagnosing a truck and getting the repair job i also got 5gallons of bio to try for free.i was gonna mix it with 1/4 tank of diesel to see how the truck runs on it.what should i expect?will i get a little more fuel mileage?power?or should i just dump it into the empty tank and run straight bio?

keep a spare fuel filter handy in case $#!& gets unclogged in tank and lines and clogs filter....also make sure the biodiesel is reputable and has come transesterified (converted from the veg oil state to diesel consistancy). take a small sample and get it down to the lowest temperature you expect the truck to be exposed to and see if it congeals. titrating on to the bio might not be a bad idea. 50/50 first tank, see how it runs, 60/40 the next, and so on.....just the precautions im taking

If it looks clear and not hazy, just throw it in there. I've been running B100 on and off, mostly on for better than a year now, still no problems. The key is good filtration. You don't have to worry about this if it is commerical biodiesel or if it's from someone who prefilters their fuel but is a homebrewer. I agree you should ahve an extra fuel filter on hand, it may or may not immediately clean your fuel tank and gunk up your filter, but it won't hurt anything. The IDI will like it a lot, and if its decent fuel, so would the Dark Side machine.

now since it will clean the gunk out of the tank andlines will it do the same for the IP and injectors?should i dump some stanadyne additive in with it too?

deffinitly wouldnt hurt. thats why titrating onto bio is better....wont expose IP and injectors to too much at once if things are being cleaned out...

well this is where it came from http://yellowbiodiesel.com/whatisbiodiesel.htm .its B100.its clear but has an orange tint to it.and smells like veggie oil but is as thin as diesel.

That's the stuff...that's what it should look and smell like. As to cleaning out lines and IP, I have thought the same thing you have, that it might, but I have never heard anyone say that it does. One would hope most/all of the gunge is out of the fuel by the time it gets that far in the fuel system, and perhaps it is and that's why we hear no complaints. As far as the stanadyne, yeha throw it in, it won't hurt anything, one of the longtime local Bio-D users runs a bit of powerservice with every tank. Good luck!

ok well i dumped the 5 gallons in the tank and filled the tank with diesel so i got 5 gallons of bio and about 12 gallons of diesel.seems to run OK,a little less knocky sounding and a hint of french fries from the tail pipe.

Pretty much here is the run down.Bio will clean all the junk out of your fuel system from the tank to the nozzles better than any off the shelf additive.It is a heck of a cleaner.You will notice a much quieter engine with bio.Also,Bio has astranomical(SP???) more lubricity that any diesel fuel out there today so it will pretty much be the only safe fuel to run in our trucks come July in the People Republik of Kalifornicate and January for the rest of us.You will suffer a little with Horse power.I think it will be in the 10% drop range due to the fuel having a little less BTU rating.Mileage will also suffer slightly with B100.But even with a 10% drop in Mileage and Horses you still come out ahead if you brew your own.Around here if i buy Methanol for around $3 a gallon I can make Bio for $1.30 a gallon.Less if I take the time to rig up a methanol recovery system.Your truck will smoke much less also.Little to no smoke and what smoke there is will smell like where ever you aquired it from.Most places will be more than happy to give you their oil since about 90% of the countries food joints have to pay a rendering company to haul it off.If you want to start brewing it get Girl Marks book from over at B100supply.com .It is well worth it and she does traveling classes....Best of all she is a BOOB woman! 85 6.9L The best oil is normally from Chinese joints and the worst is from burger joints since the first change theirs quite frequently and the last....well,if you saw their oil you would think twice about saying yes to "You want fries with that?".To start up too you will need about 10 bucks worth of lab equipment(Scale,Beakers,etc)and the processor is in the 120-300 range depending on if you can find a free electric water heater(DO NOT USE GAS!!!methanol goes BOOM easy).You want electric so you can heat your oil before mixing the methanol and Lye.Makes the chemical reaction happen in about a 1/4 the time.

Doesn't take but about a 2 foot by 8 foot area for bio production and then enough room to store the WVO and Finished Bio.You can even make it in 2 liter Coke bottles if you wanted to go that route(be good for small batches for addition to ULSD to make up for lubricity).

to brew enough to feed both trucks for a week id need my whole shop.my landlord at the house and the shop would have a heart attack if i started brewing my own fuel.
