glow plug issues

the wide strap gets hot when you are cycling the glow plugs, it cools down after you shut the key off, and also it just seems like the plugs arent working, you can check for 12 volts at each one of the plugs to see if they are working right?, Im just lost on why nothing seems to be working right

I feel your pain, I have a thread like this one going too. Mine does the same as yours. I bypassed the timer for now but still not much luck. I just replaced all my glow plug wires with a custom made harness last night and it did start much better this morning. Still to early to tell if that was the problem or not. I'll chime back in later.

glow plugs are the most common issue causing parts on an IDI, doesnt anyone have any tips, tricks, or suggestions that would help me from here on out with this issue???

Well mine still isn't starting like it should either. After new ip, glow plugs, return lines, caps, new lines from the lift pump, new the lift pump, new batteries, replaced injectors. Still has trouble starting cold. You would think with as many people view this site, we would get a bit more feed back.

Should be 9volts at the plugs, The strap is a resistor of sort to cut back the volts from 12. It should heat up some, as for how much I'm not sure. I have fiddled with my timer a bunch, I believe I just have a bad timer, that is why I went with a manual switch to control the plugs.
