Gearing/Tire size question

I have a 93 f250 4x4, ZF 5 sp, 4.10 gears, LT 235/85/16 tires. I just bought the truck about 3 months ago and haven't driven it much. When I bought it I had a friend drive home and I followed in my 2000 chevy silverado that I believe has a pretty accurate speedometer. My best guess is that the ford speedo is off approx. 10%, it reads 65 when is doing 60. Everything looks stock.

I would like to run 315/75/16 tires, for better off road performance and to help cruise down the road at lower rpm's. I don't want to lift the truck because i'm building a camper on the back. The rear looks like they will fit no problem, the front looks like they will rub the fender and the bumper. I plan to replace the bumper with my own style winch bumper and I don't mind trimming the fenders. Does anyone have any pics of similar setups ? Will a stock motor have enough power with 1,200-1,800 lbs of camper on the back ?

I think you'll be ok. Its a diesel for a reason.. lol

I know for a fact (done it on two trucks) that running a LT315/75R16 will change the speedo by 10% (approx). If your speedo reads 10% faster than you are really going now, increasing to the LT315/75R16 will "match" your speed to your speedometer. I'm running that size tire and when my speedo says 55mph, I'm acually doing 60mph. The stock motor should have no problems with that camper. Here's a pic of my truck with LT315/75R16 tires and a 1,200lb. camper on it. I hauled it over to the coast and back (over passes, and in snow) without a problem.

Does your truck have the large Warn Hubs or the smaller ones? I have a '93 F250 HD and it is my understanding (please anyone correct me if I am wrong)that if it came factory with the ZF5 and the larger hubs then it is a HD.(9,000 gvwr)Although When I used to own my 30' bumper pull camper(Now I have an old ford gasser motorhome<hoping to drop in a diesel this year>). Anyhow back to the point///I used to load down my truck when going on camping trips. Camper fully loaded for a 9 day camp,3 motorcycles in back of the truck,14' alum boat on the rack overhead,15hp boat motor in back,12 5 gal. gas cans. Camping tools,chainsaw shovels etc. Spare bike parts and lots of tools cuz we like to break stuff. I rolled onto certified cat scale at a truck stop right after I was filled with fuel and the camper water tank full. Truck Trailer and all weighed 16,549lbs. I pulled that out into the mountains about 3 times a summer 100* outside and this truck had no problems. It actually took longer to go down the hills than up them for fear of burning up the brakes (I want an exhaust brake!!!!!!!) Anyhow that is a testamate to the pulling power of these machines.
