gauging intrest on sales of a custom intake.

so im gearing up for a custom IDI build.
i now have a intake that creates alot of much needed real estate in the center of the engine.
havin a few beers with my buddy that made this,
and we were thinking of making these upon request.

thinking of selling them for 225$ with a varying core charge of $50-75
depending what i can find on e-bay and members.

not many options for our engines,
and people that run R&D intakes need a innercooler anyways.

so here is what we came up with.
the intake tubes still need to be cut down.
but i didnt want to cut them until i had the exact plan worked out.

this is untested for now.
do not forsee any real issues except for maybe wanting a "spider" or a connection for 1 intake pipe.

That's pretty much like the design Justin from R&D did on his "Project Smogie" build. Its pretty neat.
Match that up with one of these water to air intercoolers and you'd be rockin'!

That's a really good point, considering that ATS and factory system pedestals bolt to the CDR port on the intake....

and i think even justins setup bolts to the back of the intate. It'd be easy enough to make a bracket. my only concern would be unequal length tubinging running to it and resulting in one cylinder running slightly leaner than another but i wouldnt think it would matter at all

Yes, a custom pedestal bracket would be relatively simple, and there are bolt bosses on the back of the cylinder heads that would be perfect to use. I don't think the port length from manifold inlet matters much, as it's basically working the same as the stock intake, just in two pieces. Under boost pressure, it really won't matter. And any slight inconsistency between each half wouldn't be noticeable performance wise, permitting they are constructed as a mirror image to one another.

this is not for a stock turbo.
this is a split intake design to do just about anything you want to do.

hence the word, custom ;Sweet

there are a few people on here that do their own custom stuff,
and one big thing is the aluminum welding.
i still suck at welding aluminum, and some of us are in the same boat.

eventually id like to do a stainless steel intake.

i like to be different.

Well your intake would be a great start for someone that has the fabricating capabilities to make the rest of their engine components work with it. A buddy of mine has a spare intake manifold that I would love to modify, but my TIG welder doesn't have A/C capabilities.
I haven't welded aluminum for awile, but I do remember how tough it is! It's a very small window of having the right heat! And the heat transfer of aluminum is crazy fast, so you gotta get the puddle going quick and weld quick before your workpiece absorbs too much heat and warps!
A stainless intake would be pretty trick for sure! I've thought about that myself, just haven't really come up with a good enough design in my head to start drawing it yet....

i vary rarely draw,
im more of a, "just do it, and if it dont work, ill modify it or make it again" kinda guy.
whatever gets the air into the head. preferably at insane boost levels? :sly

dont forget about using the correct rod! lol
i do need to learn it, and practice. but i have a friend thats retired and loves to do little projects like this.
and ive got my hands overfull, so you know how that goes!

Now those would be sweet wi a compund twin/ single setup...two ...one big one spooling two small ones...just tossing crazy tinfoil canuckleheaded thoughts out there

I just do a rough freehand sketch of something if the idea is great, since I'll likely forget about it by the time it comes to fabricating it.
Something that's already around, like this Holley Hi-Ram intake, is a design that I've considered modifying for our engines. It'd be easy enough to put together with tube, sheet and plate, with a tube inlet on the front of the plenum. The plenum design creates a common space to distribute air to the runners, allowing them to be of equal length. It also acts as an air reserve, smoothing out airflow into the runners, and balancing the intake volume between each cylinder. It would be perfect for high boost.

The problem he's trying to solve is the space problem. It definitely has the cool factor going for it and if you were running twins, it would be totally bad ass. What you quickly find out when trying to turbocharge a V8 that wasn't intended to be turbo charged, space is at a premium. Especially for designs that have the turbo in the valley. With the IP on one end there ain't room for much turbo and keep any sort of stock intake. You have to get creative. There's more than one way to skin that cat, but this is probably the sexiest way I've seen yet.

With the one I posted, profile and dimensions would be modified from what is pictured to fit the application of course. And with twin turbos, you want to balance pressure between the banks somewhere in the system, rather than have each bank running solo. Or you may as well have two 4 cylinder engines sharing the same crank - it'll run rough. Maybe a custom dual in/out intercooler? :sly

On another note:
I'm anxious to see this twin turbo build unfold!

i will be making my own headers,
i want headers for the cool factor, they just look amazing.
te collector flange will be a T4 flange
GP38's will rest on both banks..
also being supported by extra long head studs if i have my way.
a custom innercooler is a must.
this all has to fit under the hood of a 1941 ford truck,

maybe 2 hood stacks....... JUST KIDDING!

but a chassis is first.

this is all a thought process, and subject to change at any moment.
