That's where the midship tank on both of my trucks have worn/rusted through. Right where the tank is pressed against the crossmember gusset.

Some of the regular cab trucks had plastic mid drift tanks with 8 ft bed that's why I asked.

this all depends on your budget. if you have the coin, replace it.
if you don't have the coin but have the time, I would weld/braze a patch.
if you cant weld or braze, delete it.
I have a single rear 38 gallon tank in mine. cost me about 150 for tank and new straps.
and no fuel switch valve to go bad.
I can't imagine the size of that Tank...were u able to use the two bottom metal plates that the OE tank uses? Part number and did it come with a new fuel level sender too?

never used the stock tanks, they were the first to come out.
the 2 piece flat tank guard I did away with, and used a rear fuel tank from a 89 F350 gasser.
then I went ahead and installed a 38 gallon tank, and since its bigger than the 33 gallon tank, I did not use the guard.
using the 89 gasser sending unit. modified for diesel applications.

HAMMERDOWN, if you change your mind on the poly tank, they can be purchased various places. Raybuck (right here in PA.) another is Gas Tank Depot. Prices are around $178 per tank.
