Picked me up a Mr. Gasket Diesel fuel electric pump its green in color. Should this be installed before or after my goldenrod filter? Its 4-7PSI so it should work good on my 7.3.

I had the black mr gasket on my old mud truck (gasser) and it wouldn't pump fuel up a hill lol. Hope yours is better than mine was!

Not to be a downer, but did you read some of the reviews? I only asked as it seemed like a price friendly alternative after I read this thread. It looks like a lot of people are unhappy with them.

Where is your filter? Is it on the framerail down by the FSS, or located somewhere else? I would think you would want it before the Goldenrod with some type of pre-filter. I think it would be better to push fuel through the GoldenRod, when it starts to plug it would be more difficult for the pump to pull fuel through the filter and could cause fuel starvation issues. Almost all electric pumps, with the Carrier/Facet pump being the exception, will push fuel much better than pull it. I am sure others will chime in.

As for the pump itself, Trav ran one of the cheep AZ off the shelf ~$40 electric pump off the shelf on E-1 and it worked fine for him.

My filter is down on the frame a little after the fuel selector. I was thinking about putting it between the Fuel selector and goldenrod.

As for the prefilter going into the fuel pump, should I use the 100 micron filter that comes with it?

i researched this pump and everything i could find, led me to believe user error.
1.use the green one.#12D not the black one.
2.ditch that stock tiny fuel filter before installation.when, not if,that plugs up,your going to burn up the pump.screw in a barbed hose adapter in its place.
3.place it after the selector valve down on the frame rail.
use an inline fuse of 5A,and a relay.i used the FSS wire to trigger the relay, the stock lift pulled and blocked off and use this pump full time.
4.dont try to run one with an old rusted out fuel tank,or run it dry of fuel.

1 year and over 15k on my little cheap mr.gasket #12D so far.

no pre-filter is required.
i have a rust free poly fuel tank.

i was always told to get the best and longest life out of an electric pump to install it as close to the tank as possible. This is due to electric pumps being able to push fuel better rather than pull fuel. I have read guys that install them way upstream in the system and make the pump pull the fuel run into issues sooner than ones mounted really close to the tank. In our case right after the fuel switch valve is the closest we can get (unless you want to run 2 pumps.

Where is a good place to get my keyed on power for the fuel pump? Can I tap into the fuel selector valve or is there keyed power?

i used a relay to power my fuel pump. I took a keyed power from the cruise control connector that i had taken out right there. then ran a wire down inside the harness to the fuel pump right in front of the switch valve.

I found a keyed power fuse up in the fuse panel that is in the engine compartment, not sure what it goes to though, Id still rather tap into a wire instead of a fuse. Im looking for a good clean factory look, but on a budget.

you can use that wire to trigger the relay.

put that wire on the 85 terminal of the relay
put constant power all the time wire on the 30 terminal of the relay
ground the 86 terminal of the relay
and run a wire to the power side of your fuel pump and hook it to the 87 terminal
then ground your fuel pump to frame ect.

walla done...

i would run a relay for sure..I dont know how many amps your fuel pump will pull but i wouldnt want to put any stress on what ever that switched power circuit is. The 85 and 86 side of a relay pulls very very very very low amps...in the MA even putting no stress on what every you hook it to

aside from that..just about all newer vehicles that have any kind of fuel pump have there own fuel pump relay
