Fuel pump location?

Ive got a Diesel leak on the right front of my engine under the alternator, its to far down to be the IP so Im thinking it might be the fuel pump however I cant find any pics/location of the mechanical fuel pump (checked the how to install electric fuel pump tech article and it didnt really help any) so anyone have a definative answer of where the mechanical fuel pump is and what it looks like?

Unrelated but any easy way to tell if its still running R12 or has been retrofitted to R134A for the AC? Went to recharge mine and couldnt find the lowside fill port (found highside though...)

Look below the alt and right above the oilpan. Should see the fuel lines from the pump to the filter going to it.

It's on the pass side and if the r-134a hose don't fit its r12 then it's two bucks for the screw on adapter. yes that's you lift pump it is found like a sosar and its exactly where you said it has two bolts think there like a 12 can't remember.

Thats what I was afraid of, looks like where the 2 round peices come together is the source of the leak (wet just above the edge all the way around). Currently it has a fairly steady drip when the trucks running (probbly 1 drip per 1-3 sec hitting the ground). Im guessing this equates to time for a new pump?

Why is it once you clean anything it all of a sudden starts leaking... this baby had no visable leaks/drips when I got it but was coated in dirt/grime so I cleaned it off, now Ive got a leaking fuel pump, leaking right side (pass side) valve cover (I think, comes from back of engine right down onto starter) and a seeping left side valve cover...

The lift pump is very easy to change out. It is easiest to remove vacuum pump and remove lift pump from the top in my opinion. When installing new lift pump, make sure the lobe inside the engine is not pointed downward. You will need to bump starter to get it in the right position if lobe is visible. A camera will be needed to make sure the lobe is in its proper position before installation of new pump.

No big deal changing a fuel pump. There are two styles of pump arms. The Airtex has a dogleg arm which can go almost straight in, the Carter pump has a straight arm which must be tipped to go under the cam lobe. With either, it's best to have the cam lobe hi point towards the top of the engine. Some engines have 2 studs with nuts, others have 2 bolts which is easier to install the pump.

Keep an eye on your oil too, if the diaphram has ruptured, it can put fuel in your oil sump, not good on bearings and such. Check the fill level, thickness and for diesel smell.
