fuel leak

i put my bed back on today and now my rear tank is leaking. does anyone have any advice? ill probly try to fix it next week because the tank is full of fuel. just hoping to get some ideas what i should be looking for. thanks

The first thing I'd be looking for is where the fuel is coming out



Probably, where the lines go over the crossmember and under the bed, the fittings got a little 'smushed' (that's the technical term). I'd double check there first, while you still have a leak (ASSuming it's coming from the top).


Make sure the ring holding the pickup/sender assembly is REALLY tight.

If its the tank then its where the straps or skid plates touch the tank. Good chance the tank got disturbed just enough to make one of the week rust spots start leaking

the tank doesnt any rust on it. it looks its coming from the sending unit area. i have run that tank out off fuel before i take it out its full lol.

Did you remove or work on the sending unit... If you did then you may have not aligned the pin in the tank to cover sending unit... Maybe the square o-ring slipped when you installed the sending unit..... If you in fact removed it.....

Gotcha well not much up there except the hoses, sending unit gasket, and the tank vent

yes i removed to check to see if the strainer was still there. ill be sure to check that.

to drive 230 miles yesterday in the city lol

i have had a chance to find the the leak.... my filter decided to suck in air. so the trucks at a friends house until a get a new filter with out the bottom screw thing lol

i think i got the leak fixed. the o ring on the pick up unit wasnt seated properly. on a side note the screen thing on the pick up was almost a the way off . so i fixed it with some rubber hose.

my trucks rear tank seemed to form a leak on the seam of the tank. and does our filter have the bowl on the bottom with a train? because my truck died twice the other day on a half tank because of air in the lines im guessing it might be the same reason.

sound like you need a new tank. i would suggest a plastic one because it will not ever rust out. my fuel fliter did its a 7.3. i think the 6.9s are different

im planning on using new steel tanks and rhino lining them before install
