This new-to-me 86 f250 is becoming fun! Camo headliner, new speakers and deck, working locks, just rebuilt the turbo, so now to track leaks!
Like I said I just rebuilt and installed the turbo, that took care of that bad oil leak. Now I drove it for a bit, parked it and tossed the cardboard down, black stuff poured down the tranny!
It's real thin like its oil with diesel in it. I got to lookin and feelin around and noticed the glow plug controller was sitting in a pool of what I later found out to be coolant. My local retired mechanic thinks the coolant is coming out at the glow plug controller, overflowing that little valley, then pouring into the valley between the flange of the tranny and the rest of the motor, then pouring down the sides. Which sounds about right cause that back wall is all soaking wet, and there is a little bit of oil down there in the bottom, which I think was left over from the turbo leaking so much.
This leak makes two puddles about a foot in diameter on each side of the tranny on the ground after shut down, and a good amount leaking out when driving slow. What say y'all?
The PO thinks it's a diesel leak possibly on the return lines, but I checked them and they all looked pretty darn dry and clean (not like cracked dry, just not covered in unknown stuff!)
I'll check everything out better tomorrow, I might seal around the GP controller when I do my front main, since I gotta drain coolant for both jobs. While I'm down doing that, do y'all recommend I check anything else? replace anything else? Request any pictures of certain things?
Thanks in advance to a kick-ass community!
