front coils on a dana 60.

I've been thinking about keeping Tue coils when I put an axles under the front of my f350 project. I was thinking about finding a 70s model Dana 44 from an f150 and cutting the mounts off to put on the 60.
What does everybody think of this idea?

I may just find and convert a half ton 44 to 8 lug. I don't plan on large tires but do plan to pull trailers.

biggest thing is the frames are wider on the 80 up trucks. i was looking at putting coils into mine. be one helluva project.

They put the dana 44s in f150s? I guess i don't see why it wouldn't work.

iv seen it done you use the coil cups from your axle and take the 4 like set up ff the f150 its very time consuming to get every thing right but not many do it

The issue i see with cutting the wedges off of a 44 for the radius arms, is that a 44 has a smaller tube than a 60, but a guy on chucks trucks put sd axles under a 77 F-150 a few years ago,and bought the wedges from somewhere and welded them on the axle and it came out *******!

If the '99 up superduty leafsprung units fit in our rides, why not the '05 up superduty coil sprung fronts? That D44 was stout in a '150, not sure about our rigs.

Those new superduty axles are priced pretty high down here. I have not made up my mind yet as to what Im going to do. A friend of mine has an 8 lug 44 from an f150 he built that was coil sprung. I need to take a look at it.

it would not be that hard to do, depending on what type of radious arms you use. if you use everything from a 80 up f150 i dont see why it would be that much trouble

Billy, I've got a coil sprung 44 under my truck so they will take the weight.

I'm not positive but I beleive the 44 and the 60 have the same dia. axles @ 3", the difference is the thickness.

If you go the 60 route Bronco graveyard sells the wedges to weld on for the radius arms.

Actually down this far south, the stupid doooty axles are far cheaper than my old 60.

I know of a coil spring front and rear end for 1K, its in Hallendale Beach but i don't know the gear ratio.

I was watching an episode of the Gearz not too long ago. Stacy David was swapping in a solid axle under Ted Nugents fullsize 80's Bronco. And he got all the parts from James Duff to do the axle swap. They sell the extended radius arms and the wedges to weld onto the D60. It sounds like they are working on an entire kit to do it. But they don't have it on their website yet.

But they sell the radius arms for a 78-79 Bronco which would work on a 80+ truck for the D60/coil swap. The 78-79 Bronco extended radius arms are on the new products page. But they are $700 a set! It looks like the wedges run $85.00 for a set. big thing with them weld on wedges, they need to go on a 78-79 axle. the driverside of the 87 up axles do not have enough driverside axle tube to weld them onto.
