It snapped in two because it was still too hard, I find that tool steels are best worked at a orange color If you work them at red color its too much work If you work them at yellow color you can mess up the carbon structure (so I am told by many blacksmiths), after you get everything bent the way you want THEN you quench it in oil or water depending on the steel (bring it up to yellow critical temp where a magnet will not stick to it before you quench it), and then you temper it I find that a straw color tempering works best for most tools. I was bored this morning.

If I could get the basic dimensions of it I could hammer it out in my forge.

I think I am going to buy the brake pliers $10 at autozone and attemp to make the other tool before I tackle my brakes.

Gee, more custom made tools available here....KEWL...Sign me up for one!

I have the old skool brake spring pliers.
Just used them matter if fact.
I'm sure they could help some...

Maybe Calvin bought them for his shop?

I always say the right tool for the job makes it quicker and easier, usually you end up bleeding less too!

Having said that, my brake spring tool has always been vise grips and a beer. I've never had a problem, but then again maybe I don't know what I have been missing!

I have that Snap on tool but can't find it tonight, I'll blame it on my son he used it last. I will find it in the morning ( I hope) and post pictures and part number. I've used it for years and its SO SO easy to change brakes with it. I bought this back in 1994 and it was a great investment looking back now!
