So I’m getting ready to drop my motor in..figured I should get a new flex plate. I only see one listed on rock auto.

Outer diameter is 15.68”

Is that the right size?

I don't believe that there's any new flex plates being sold for the Factory Turbo engine. The only one listed will probably be for a N/A engine.

Wow, so what do people do? I have two motors and so two flex plates. One isn’t dead flat (wobbles while idles) and the one in the truck would miss and grind the plate every once in a while.

What is the difference and does it matter? My thinking is if the 7.3 Idi and 7.3 idit motors are interchangeable shouldn’t the flex plate?

I know you guys know more about these trucks but it never hurts to ask.

I may be able to help. I have a 94 factory turbo idi I bought from a junkyard to put in my truck and it had a newer flywheel on it when I got it. I have a zf5 so it’s no use to me. I don’t know if it is correct, it looks good/ pretty new. I was told the truck was totaled in a wreck, main thing I know is it was a really half ass rebuild with cheap parts and the turbo wasn’t gone over, no machine shop work. So I’d be skeptical it is right.

So I’ve got the old motor out. I’m having some issues with the flex plates.

The new motor I got has a N/A flex plate and I believe it’s a turbo motor. I found a serial number stamped by the injection pump.
7.3t u2u120291

Thinking I have a turbo block and it’s not just got a turbo kit installed.

A local machine shop ordered me the turbo flex plate and it clearly differed from the one I took off this motor. It seems as though someone had this transmission and torque converter out once before. So could they have installed the wrong flex plate? I’m waiting on this to install the motor but really not sure where to go next.

Use another NA plate or assume the original owner put in the wrong plate and install a turbo plate on it. The turbo plates seem much more beefy and a larger adapter ring.

Thanks for any input!

So..the factory turbo idi I just took out has the same flex plate as my other motor. I’m starting to wonder if all of these plates are the same?

The flexplates look the same, will bolt up the same but the factory turbo has more counter weight then the non turbo, if you run a non turbo plate on a turbo engine, the engine will be out of balance and shake badly.
