ok. i think i juiced her a wee bit too much! i thought oh what the hell im in here i may as well go 3 flats. yup, about 1 flat too much! shell roll some coal now! also pulled a HELLUVA lot better too.the grade i was barely pulling in 4th at 45 now i pulled at 55 in 5th. hazing the group of cars behiind me, but i was pulling it. pulling the uber steep hill at the end of my road it was all it would do to barely pull it in 2nd yesterday, now i ripped through 2nd and pulled 3rd almost to the top then tached out 2nd again before the top! has a mean bit of a growl now under load at 3000rpm. think i burned about 2 gallon on my 12 mile round trip though... but it was fun! egt never got above 950. i do believe that is pre turbo if im looking at the turbo housing correctly. that boost gauge has to be messed up cuz it still read no boost at all.

I had that happen. Saw 8 lbs max. Swapped in a known good gauge, maxed at 15. Check for kinked boost gauge lines. It is VERY easy to do.

Too bad you can't make it. We'd love to meet you and I really would like to see your rear disk brake coversion. Any photos?

Well, I'm glad to hear you got her breathing a little FIRE!-Flame Thr
Enjoy the new found power....and try and make next years rally if you can.;Sweet

You've got quite a few IDI veterans who live near you. You should hook up with one of them. I bet your timing is retarded, your pump is worn, and your injectors are in need of a refresh. Good job on the turn up. ;Sweet Just leave it where it is. Turning it down is the same as not pressing the pedal as hard.

leave it where it is unless someone else drives your truck that wont keep an eye on the gauges, my dad and bro borrow my truck occasionally and wont watch the pyro.

So theoretically if I was the only one.. I could crank it all the way and use the pedal to adjust it where i want it eh? :sly

Sadly the truck is my gf's moms :( Hopefully will be mine soon!! be my in-town BEAST with it cranked right up. ;Sweet

yes think of your fuel delivery as a linear graph when you turn that screw it just makes the graph steeper in slope so you get more fuel at the same rpms with an na it really dont help all that much to have it maxxed but with a turbo that fuel helps to spool the turbo which will then cram more air into the engine to burn that fuel

Yeah I'd wait for a turbo to turn the fuel up, you can already make pretty good smoke in the stock settings with a NA motor. The numbers are probably dead scary too especially under load close to WOT or on a hill. If you must 1 flat with a pyro is probably still ok for a NA motor.

ive got mine up 3 flats with an na motor and she doesnt really roal coal that well, but i dont really try to do it either. the only time i have ever had to back out of it because of egts was when my ram air set up came off and i was pulling a 32 ft loaded with cows and trying to pass someone doing 50 mph. and for those of you that dont think ram air works i have completed that feat many times without backing off of her with the ram air.

its the same as most ram airs. i hacked the radiator core enough to fit some of that 4 in dryer ducting wrapped in duck tape for strength. ran it down through the radiator core and put a scoop that was originally intended for a stove vent where it pulled air from right beside the radiator behind the grill. i think everything cost me about 15-20 dollars at the most from the local hardware store. i dont have the camera cord but i will post a pic of the one i kinda copied in just a sec.

most people wonder how i have it turned up this much and the key is where i live. the only thing that remotely resembles a hill around here is bridges over bayous so i dont have to worry about pulling hard over hills. plus i am right at sea level so that helps to.

VERY NICE! i think i will do this on my 87. Seems it is a concept that can't fail really.. I mean you are effectively allowing the engine to breath easier..

simple physics really lol

yes sir thats what i figured. that is the key to a diesel and it has been stated time and time again and is the whole concept of turbocharging. the easier and more air that flows in and out of the engine the better performance you will have. and we all know that cold air helps out so its really just logic. i think one user posted egts of 200 deg lower on a zero to sixty with ram air versus unplugging it and just having the intake sucking from right above the engine.
