and the results are .......
idle under 200 degrees F and slight vacuum
40 mph 200 degrees no boost
50 mph 250 degrees no boost

hard acceleration--climbing a hill at about 55 mph--- max temp observed 350 and max boost about .2 atm

Truck is a '94 7.3 factory turbo
IP is a takeoff from a 6.9 NA truck I used to have.
Looks like I can turn up the fuel quite a bit.
Going to have Mel set the timing--when I can get there during business hours.

I invite your comments

Where do you have the pyro probe?

And should be seeing more boost than that. At least a few psi.

Notice he lists boost in atm units not psi. There's about 14.7 psi to atm. So that's about 3psi if my math is working. Probably should be making a little more but the temps are pretty low. I'd say turn it up!

Well I don't think so but he'll have to clarify. I seem to remember he bought some fancy gauges. Wouldn't be unusual for a scientific type gauge to be in atm.

Thanks for the replies.

Probe is in the driver's side exhaust manifold at the end nearest the firewall.
Gauges are not fancy ( budget is TIGHT!!!), but are about the least expensive I could find.
Calibration in atm was not a problem since the term was familiar.

EGTs seem very low. Idle should be 200-300 (depending on how long you let it idle), and that romp up the hill should have put the number in the high 100s.

Those numbers are so low, I would not trust the gauge. How far from the turbo is it? You want it close to it or in front of it.

He said The probe is in the drivers exhaust manifold. That's the hottest place because cylinders 6 and 8 fire one right after the other. I agree, the numbers seem really low. I would have to suspect the gauge. Are you sure the temp is in F and not C?

Two questions, what brand and model of guages are they?
Is the pump a used IP?

If USED IP you may want to step up to a newer one if possible as maybe the pump is not delivering enough fuel. You could turn it up some to see if that gets you some boost.

OK, update time.....
Egg on my face, the EGT gauge is in "C". I missed that.
Turned the pump up about 3 flats, and the power increase is pretty good. EGT also show more response, I did see almost 600 degrees C pulling a grade towing the trailer. I need to run the temp conversions, but I think 650 C is my MAX. I am a little bummed as I was happy to have a gauge that read to just 1200 degrees---if that had been "F", I would have been fine. As it is, I will sue half the gauge.
Need to really read the details before purchasing.

Max I saw on the boost was only about .4 or about 6 psi
