so back in December i decided i was going to rebuild the 7.3 out of my parts truck, now months later after much struggling and lots of scouring around here for information i finally got it finished.

old engine was pretty dirty and i had no idea if it ran, was told it "dropped" a cylinder but didnt know what the guys definition of dropped a cylinder is, one of the injection lines on it had clearly been brazed (quite poorly) so i thought maybe he just plugged the line off accidentally when he brazed it. on teardown i found that one of the injectors was pretty well locked in the injector bore and only the upper half came out when i pulled it (i forgot about the other half when i took the heads to the engine shop and apparently he missed it and it was stuck good enough it didnt come out in the tank). after getting all of it cleaned up it seemed to be in pretty good working order so it was a fairly straight forward rebuild. went with R&D Stage 1 cam, R&D 90cc injection pump, R&D stage 1 injectors, used a victor reinz full gasket set for all the seals, south bend clutch and flywheel, comp cam 910 springs, ARP head studs, and had a buddy make me a freeze plug tool.

ill just post pics of what i started with and the end result

sadly the intake and accessories make it kinda hard to see in the truck

yeah looks good. I have the serp setup on my truck and got rid of some unneeded wires and it really cleans the engine bay up..

that looks really nice, I would like to go serp but it will wait until everything gets swapped into the new truck, i picked up an 89 460 truck that is basically identical to mine that I'm going to paint and clean up over the winter then I'll swap the diesel into it

the best thing with the serp is you get the 3g alternator and the a/c is in a better spot. you also don't have to tighten belts.

don't mean to hijack by the way.....

Right? How about a picture of the hood closed?
In my pondering of idi turbo setups, a top mounted ic just like yours has been in my minds eye since I got the truck.
Do you have a build thread?

so far it works well. I haven't been able to over heat it yet. I can use ALL the power and almost not have to look at the gauges. the most annoying thing I noticed is towing up hills on OD if im really in the throttle the trans will want to kick out of OD before I can get the pyro to 1,100* and almost no smoke out the pipe.

That's not subtle :) Do you have any water mitigation device for rain?

yeah I kinda went all out with it, you cant miss it coming down the road. some like it some don't but if I open the hood their mind generally changes. in the rain I think it evaporates by the time it would reach the motor. I did notice the rain almost puddles on the windshield.
