I picked up my new to me 85 f350 4x4 yesterday. Has a 94 IDI non turbo ENGINE, 4 speed with brand new gear vendor truck is from the south so it is rust free. Man are these IDI's cool or atleast I think so. I bought it yesterday afternoon and just got back from a 200 mile trip and it didn't miss a beat set the cruise at 70 turning 1900 rpm. What I need to know is what can I do to this performance wise? I know there isn't much and it already has a 4" dynomax exhaust on it. I plan on doing a turbo very soon. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

If you are looking for a reliable hauler or 4x4 you are right on.

The turbo is the SINGLE best modification you can do. I had a Banks on mine and loved it. Hypermax makes a good product too.

Good luck with your rig.

All the above postings are correct. A turbo is the best bang for the buck. Banks, ATS and hypermax are quality turbo kits these engines handle very well. Welcome to the forum too..

Thanks a lot guys! I will post some pics this evening. Itt still has the rubber around the wheel wells and they are fully intact not floppiing in the wind. He invested like 12k into this thing and all work was done at a diesel shop or ford dealer. Needless to say I'm like a kid I'm so excited to have found this thing but boy she is noisy!

Once you turbo the rig and have the proper gauges (boost, pyro minimum), you might want to think about a Moose pump and Moose injectors too.

Welcome to OB.

I see you're in OH. Keep it out of the salt in the winter if possible. That will eat the truck alive. Also, the IDI Rally is being held in MI in July. You should head a bit north for it. We'd all love to meet you and see your rig.

Gear Vendor

Do you mind taking a under truck photo and a photo or two of your electrical stuff inside the cab for your vendors unit? Mine is damaged (got it that way), and because mine is first generation, I am wondering how yours is wired up and if its got the electrical parts int he same area as mine. My floor switch for high beams is right next to the gear vendor control module. Why whoever mounted the box put it right there i have no idea, but the positive cable on mine is broken off. bit of work on that..

Thanks.

I appreciate your pictures. They do indeed help. If you notice, your second photo shows your control box mounted 90 degrees different than my own. That red wire that sticks straight up on yours is the broken red wire sitting on my truck seat in my own picture. System looks about the same, so that answers a few questions of mine. Thank you, and if you need anything, ask me. ;Sweet

Loud

It is a Diesel hehe. If you think its overly loud, check your exhaust. Might go and keep your ear open around town and listen to other trucks that have diesel engines for comparison.

Also, because I forgot to mention it above. That gear vendors unit you have. Those units are around $3,000.00 new, and if you have one in your truck, gear vendors doesn't care if you bought it, have a receipt or what. If you have a unit in your vehicle, its $950.00 +/- replacement. Just so you know. I also have some tech diagrams of mine, depends on how old yours is. My unit is about 15+ years old and its first generation. It takes automatic transmission fluid, and has (i think) 2 filters in it that are cleanable. Hope that gives you some useful info, though, I don't know if you really needed it or not. :rotflmao
