What are you guys running this winter? I always run Rotella 15-40.. Is that a good weight for colder temps? I also need to change the trans. filter and fluid. What kind of oil should I put in the trans.? How many qts. does it take? Do I need the standard or dt1 filter? It's a 1988 F250 , 4x4 , c6.

Thanks!

I would stick with 15w40 unless you get temps that like to stay in the teens or lower. Your in southern Oregon, right? I think you should be fine with 15w40

Yep, I am in Southern Oregon. It doesn't get THAT cold down here.. just enough to freeze. :D

From what I have read, the dt1 filter is for a 4x4 c6, and the standard filter is for a 2wheel drive c6? Also, it sounds like I will need about 12 qts.. But of what fluid?

15W-40 is fine for where you are, might want to try some Delo, mine drinks less Delo than Rotella :dunno

Mine uses hardly any oil. It has a small leak, and that is pretty much all it loses. I will try Delo though. ;Sweet

Any suggestions for trans. fluid? And how many qts? I was going to get 12, but don't want to be short..

I always hear 12 quarts for a C6, but I'd buy 13 because that's me:dunno

I would suggest anything with a Type F rating, I used to buy it in a big jug but I haven't seen it that way for a while.

I thought the Type F was meant for 1978 and newer c6's (?) .

Don't know how cold it gets where you are, but I run 15W-40 for roughly half the year, and 10W-30 diesel oil for roughly half the year. The 7.3 diesel supplement recommends 10W-30 when the temps are to be repeatedly below freezing.

Southern Oregon will generally have lows in the teens-20's, highs in the 30's normally, depending on where he is. Usually get some cold snaps down to single digits.

Depends on his altitude.

I got 4 gallons of 15 40 Delo, HP6001 filter, trans. filter , and 4 gallons of Valvoline Mercon trans. fluid. The total was around $130. ;Sweet
