I bought some headgastets on Ebay and one had been opened and the Coolant restrictors are missing. What is the pourpose of the restrictor? Is it needed? The gasket has rubber all around that hole so it will seal, but why do they restrict the flow through the head?:dunno

Is that a 6.9 vs. 7.3 item? Like the the gaskets are the same (except the cyl.
dia.) but the 7.3 uses the restrictor??

Gaskets dont interchange between the 6.9 and 7.3 because of the head bolt diameter. I remeber hearing something about it before but dont remember why its there. Does a 7.3 even have the rear coolant passages?

Here is a picture of the driver's side of a 7.3 IDI block. Look at the water passages and compair it to your gasket and see if there is a big difference of not.

The passages on the block are not gone on a 7.3, but they are on the head, to the best of my recolection. The gasket would still require the rubber insert.
