F450 w/ pickup bed

I found a truck for sale that is a 94 f450 with a f350 bed and it dumps! Anyways looks like a clean job. Im wondering if anyone (I mean towcat) has information or experience with these "pickup" trucks

So a 450 with a pickup bed would still need to hit the scales... unless you restickered it. Also with a dump bed is a goose neck or fifth wheel hitch out of the question?

I also would love to have a truck like that with a dana 70 front. Those axles must be hard to find. Would the front leaves be changed? Or do they bolt on spring under?

A note of caution... Buying a truck thats an F450 1994 AND OLDER in the state of ca is not the correct thing to do. In a year all of them will be removed from the roads no matter who you know. New crappy laws made them not something we can drive on the roads any longer... Funny thing is this same engine in an F350 truck can still be driven on the roads in ca.... How stupid is that....

Yeah I heard something about the F450 ordeal about private owners a while back. No idea that law passed. That sucks. I saw that thing on Craigslist a while back (he's dropped the price about a grand), if you are serious about it I bet you can get some more $$ knocked off of it.

Sounds like you'd need an F350 cab that comes with a clean title to make this work in your neck of the woods.

I think this thread covers it pretty well, including a link the the CA Gov. PDF of the new law. I looks like personal use and a pickup bed could put it in the exempted class. Other than that you'd have to figure out how to get it to meet the CA emission requirements of a 2010 model diesel.

As far as the F450/SUPER DUTY in CA. Could a person obtain a VIN tag from a F350 to fix this issue?

He has obvioulsy not used the dump bed for anything other than mulch...
My 350 has a GVWR of 11,000, but when I haul gravel on it I gross about 14,500. Handles it well, and here in Iowa I am within my legal load limit as a farmer.

As to a dump bed with a gooseneck, I have seen several set up that way. You will have a door to flip open to access the hitch plate and ball.

It was a decree from a dictatorial organization who has a penchant for imposing their political ideology on the state as a whole, and who was (unwisely IMHO) given unilateral power with no oversight whatsoever to force air-quality laws down the collective throats of Californians. Given that the California Air Resources Board is an organization that Republicans love to hate, it's ironic that the CARB was signed into law by Ronald Reagan in 1967.

Hey Warden thank you for clearing that up for me. I heard it passing from a friend, but nothing on paper. Interesting article. Freaking hate the Air Resources Board mainly based on the 1998 and newer smog issue; I guess I'll have to keep an old rig forever.

what the CARB people didn't mention was most of the pickup bed upfitters, buy and register the truck as a chassis-cab "CB" first. you have to start with a registration from DMV with a "PU" or a "PK" designator otherwise you are still screwed.
