well it finally happened. a rough road did my crusty 3" Hypermax in. broke off just after the y-pipe. now i have options.

a. get a stock 2 1/2" system and install a cherry bomb. i got the best sound when i had this setup years ago.

b. install 3" system with 3" glasspack i have on the shop. tried this already and it was loud.

c. leave it as is.

the truck is not a daily driver so it doesnt have to be quiet and must be cheap.

open for suggestions:yell:

One word of warning. Dual exhaust is MUCH louder than single if you are NA. Been there - done that. Before I put the Hypermax turbo on I built a 3" dual system with 50 series Flowmaster mufflers and you could not believe the racket, it hurt it was so loud! I ended up putting 36" long truck type round mufflers behind the Flowmasters to get it quiet.

I hate glass packs...sound like a chicken laying an egg. After having them on mine, it will never see them again, open or otherwise, no glass packs, even if free! cookoo

the 2.5 with full tailpipe sounded sweet. 3" with turndown not so good. what size did you have on yours?

They were small, like 2 inch at best. I should have mentioned that as well, I think the pipe was way small. I literally hated them. I have a very deep rumble now with the Summit Racing Muffler and 3 inch all the way. No cackle, but it does make some noise on the top end. It is a 3 inch y to muffler, to crossover box and dual 3 inch stacks. I know you don't like stacks, but it would be easy to y out as well, or just leave as a single.

Rob I'd go 3" with a 50 series Flowmaster, and a tail pipe. I hate exhaust in front of the rear wheels, to me it looks cheep and unfinished.

:idiot: duh why don't i recycle the PSD exhaust onto the IDI. if it's free, you need it i always say. i'll try the 3" glasspack with the tailpipe, i think that will help the sound compared to a turn down. Russ you remember the old 2.5 cherry bomb system. then maybe i'll get a 4" for the PSD for my birthday if i'm lucky
