I'm having a bit of a hard time picturing that...
Being about 5'5", depending what I'm doing, I just crawl up in there. I'll be sitting up.
Same with the suburban, but that thing has quite a bit of room. But some reason the hood doesn't open very far.

I'm about 6'4 and weigh about 220... I usually just stand on ammo cans or buckets lol. But I have crawled up there when I broke a piece on my turbo. It's not fun at all....

I made a top side creeper for less than $50 out of 1-1/8" angle iron. See pic. Have all the measurements. Fasten it to a cheery picker or put feet on it. Folds up by removing the bolts, hang on the wall. Have to draw up the dimensions yet.
You can see my skinny A$$ on it.
Where the top bolts are, it's adjustable for an IDI or a PSD.

Heading out for a while but google 'crossfit jump box". They're essentially plywood boxes intended for the cult members to jump up and down on while grunting like animals. Just like this:

I'll be getting/building a topside creeper myself. Its fine leaning over the engine on a bucket... Until the bucket slides and your fat self is lying on the radiator support wondering *** just happened and how on earth you'll get down without sliding across the hood latch... all with the wind knocked out of you!

Exactly! I have had this happen and use a dirt bike stand or sometimes the small 2ft step ladder, both more stable than a bucket and have still had it happen.

Harbor Freight moving blankets. Work over the radiator or on the ground for under truck work. I also built one of those plywood boxes. Store stuff in it on trips and easily empty out and stand on it if needed. 6'4", 240 lbs.

Bumper/patio has been extremely helpful :D

Otherwise I grab a spare 35" tire (on rim, inflated, laid down) and that's a ~12" footstool for working over the fender sides. I'm 6'3" 180# with a good reach though...

I let the air out of the front tires. Gets it low enough I can reach the cowl from the front of the truck, feet on the ground. When I did my axle swap I put a cherry picker on the hitch. Front end was even lower then aired down tires
