I have a C6 here from a 6.9 with the TC and flexplate. Would it bolt up in place of the E4OD in my 91 as an emergency repair? I have a line on a used SM flywheel locally for $175 but until I have ALL my ZF swap parts ready I'd like to have a spare trans around should my E4OD take a dump so I can atleast keep my truck rolling....Seems to be a lot of guys in my area calling me looking for E4OD or ZF parts this week, 2 of them lost the E4's in their trucks....Making me paranoid... ...I wish I had the coin for a used GV or something like that so I could keep the C6 in there.-cuss

C-6's are a very Tuff tranny! Is the E4OD the same length as the C-6???

I will put a GV on my 205 transfer case........ONE DAY lol.

I love the C6 tranny's, I've had 2 trucks with them in the past but without the OD my fuel mileage will take a dump....I have a gasser smallblock C6 tucked away in my shed too as they are hard to find. I'm putting a NP205 divorced case in my 91, just waiting for my gasket set to show up so I can assemble it.

C6 will probably get you about 12-13 US mpg in town and 14-17 on the highway empty with the 3.55s you have. Other than that and the crappy VRV its a good setup. Shouldn't be too troublesome to slide it in place of the E4OD if you had to since you have a very high skill level. I wonder if the flywheels interchange or are different though.

I just made a deal a few minutes ago for a complete 2wd ZF-5spd setup from an 88 F350 with a 7.3L.... SM flywheel, almost new clutch-pressure plate, ZF trans, clutch M/C, slave piston and etc for $400....I also have another 2wd diesel ZF for spares.

Good deal, except isn't your truck 4X4? The ZF will get you the best fuel mileage and is much tougher than the E4.

It's actually easier to do the divorced NP205 with a 2wd ZF trans. Looks like you're headed in the right direction. All you need now is a pedal set off any f-series pu(87-91) and the hydraulic setup.

I'm getting all the hydraulics in the $400 and I have a parts F150 4x4 for the clutch pedals. How would a manual t-case shift lever mount to a ZF?, are there threaded bosses in the case like an E4OD?. I have a t-case shift lever here from an E4OD and one from an M5OD as well. I need to gear up a shift lever to work the 205.

If you have a BW1356, the lever pivot is a drilled and threaded boss on the case. I'll take a look at a ZF on the ground this afternoon and snap a pic.

Cool, the seller just called me to confirm all the parts that I wanted. He said I can buy the 88 7.3 IDI for $300 if I want minus the injection pump, lines and glowplugs.....If I only had the cash I'd be on it like flies on ****. It has 275,000km on it. He's pulling the ZF tommorow....I'm hoping to sell a few parts this week so I can get the IDI as well.
