This has been an ongoing problem for the past couple years. I have replaced the vss, tach sensor, filp (set within spec) and valve body. The trans still bangs and goes into limp mode at random. I drove the truck the other day and noticed the tach was dead. I lightly banged the dash it came up. It hasn't went dead again but while driving I noticed the tach reading was off. Lightly banged the dash and it returned to what seemed more accurate. What do you guys think? This e4od has been the biggest downfall with this truck.

Might want to remove the tach sender and clean it off. They are magnetic and will collect metal from gear wear. Its an easy job. If that does not fit the issue then check connections behind the dash for the tach seeing you say... If you hit the dash the tach works correctly...

Tach sensor is on the injection pump gear cover. It reads the teeth of the gear. I second the idea of checking the connections on the back of the gauge cluster.
