I have a e4od 4wd trans and a guy is looking for one for his 2wd what all has to be changed to swap? just tail housing or does the output shaft have to be changed as well?

You will need to swap the output shaft.
To change it. You will need to disassemble the tranny completely. The shaft is retained by a snap ring at the rear of the case.
