E4od 2wd to 4wd parts interchange

I think this will work, but I need to know for sure...
Can I take the output shaft and adaptor from a 4wd gasser E4od and put it in my 2wd Diesel trans to use for a 4x4? The trans is getting taken apart next week and I just might be able to get these parts.

I did quite a bit of looking and found no reference to special output shaft for any particular engine application, therefore I feel it safe to assume that they are all the same 2wd / 4wd.
