Good Day All,
Fairly new to deisels and have a question,
How much improvment am I gonna see by just replacing the downpipe and not the turbo outlet ? I have already replaced the exaust to 3" from down pipe back and that helped some I have a banks down pipe I'm gonna install. Is the downpipe and easy install ??? I don't want a hi performance truck just looking to improve a little to pull my little 25' travel trailer. I have already installed gages and bigger trans cooler and this downpipe look like a fairly cheap way to go,
Thanks.

The banks down pipe will improve things quite a bit.Not as good as a full housing upgrade since you still have that 2 1/2" restriction right at the turbo but the nice smooth ROUND pipe will flow tremendously better than that sorry excuse for a Ford designed down pipe(Why can't Ford put a real exhaust on ANYTHING?) and now that ATS is under new ownership(in a totally different state) they don't make the upgrades anymore. That and the new owner is a shady character from the other thread on this board.

The DP will help on its own. Wait until you see what will come out of our trucks. The factory pipe is squished, literally! I need to do the DP in my truck as well. How much did the Banks pipe cost? When you get the DP done see about opening up the intake. I plan on doing the Tymar style intake on mine and relocate the fuel filter off the alt. bracket most likely.

You still have a restriction, 2.25 vs 3 inch. changing the down pipe is only half of the battle. You need to improve the intake as well. Diesels :- more air in - more exhaust out. Turning up the pump with a good in take system and good exhaust flow eill "wake up " these engines.

Re:

Got the down pipe for $99, Ordered one day got it the next, great service.
Will the original heat wrap fit or will I need to find somthing elsewhere ? and where ? Also would a guitar pickin, not much of a gear head like myself be able to install this downpipe ?
Thanks for all your help,

Yea,Pretty easy.Just take a sawsall and cut the pipe under the truck just back from firewall, undo the clamp on the turbo(one nut) and out it comes, slide the new down pipe in,check the fit, beat the lip back on the bottom of the firewall with a BFH and put the down pipe back in and tighten down the clamp.Done.Now drive to a muffler shop and have them weld the pipes back up.
