disassembling my dana 50 hub need help

the manual says to pull it off and put on by hand, doesnt look like it can be done that way?

OK what are the chances, I was sort ing through my tools and remembered I had bought a rotunda seal driver for a dana 50. Went to check and it was the driver for that seal. So I made a handle and I'm all set. the seal pulled of with no trouble.

so here I am driving the old ujoint out with my ball joint press mounted in my vise.

and this is why you change your u-joints while your in there.

here I'm cleaning the bores of the shaft...

here I'm filing any burs off, there was a huge one on this piece.

this is how I re-assembled the shaft, I pulled the ends off the u-joint for clearance....

put her in like so, pushing it to one side so I could get the cap on without dropping needle bearings when I put the cap on...

put the cap on the one side and pressed it in making sure that the cross stayed on the cap so the bearings didn't fall out....

now I pushed her almost all the way through so the cross is sticking out the other side so I can put the other cap on without dropping bearings...

at this time I put in the spring clip to so I knew when to stop when pressing....

then I pressed the other cap in until I hit the clip and stopped as soon as I felt resistance, then I put the other clip in making sure I used the right one for the cap mounted grease zerk....

We're not done yet, now I put the assembly in the vise like pictured (supported underneath the horizontal ears in case it slips but not so it binds the vertical ears) and hammered each ear (rotating the assembly) so as to release and bound caps that were bound from pressing, you will feel them loosen when done right. My picture stinks.

Excellent pictutorial there of what's going on...basically the same method I've used for many years.

Never done pics though...just not hi on my priority.

She's all back together, went and test drove her, must have matched the tie rods perfectly because she pulls a little to the right just like before . Have an appointment at the alignment shop on tueday then the job is finished.
