D60 question

What causes the axle shaft to be wobbly?
Gotta be something in the hub, but what?
I mean it's not real bad. But will move around a bit.

About to do my balljoints and inner axle seals. Figured it'd be a good time to tighten up some stuff.

inside the spindle is the outer axle shaft bearing, if there is movement or wobble in the out axle shaft, I'd replace them when you do the ball joints, you'll have them off already.

Sorry, you would need this one if your D60 is newer than 1992. This is what I bought for my D60 when I did the knuckle ujoints a couple of years ago. Figurd I might as well go all in and replace the the spindle bearings too. As I recall, I needed my slide hammer to pull 'em out of the bore.

Doing the inner seals and ball joints and ujoints.

Probably end up swapping bearings. We'll see tomorrow when I go to get it all back together.

The passenger wheel bearing was a bit loose.
I couldn't wiggle it though. But the nuts were loose.
I could spin it and it would go for about 20 seconds.
Driver side would make a few revolutions and stop.

Once you pack wheel bearings and such with good grease, you will likely not have an issue once bearings set correctly with one spinning easier than the other.

Those spindle bearings are worth doing NOW instead of later, as it can cause problems with hubs later if moving at speed. and ujoints and worse case drive gears in the differential.

The axle needs support to be centered correctly and remain in an accurate position for bind free operation of ujoints etc.

Good luck with the build, take tons of pictures.

I'm thinking most of the play is in the ujoints.

Just can't afford them right now.
Haven't been working a whole lot because the rain.
Hard to drag a mobile home through a mud hole.

Ya I suppose be more like some convoluted mobile skiff or house boat then eh?

DO what you can, I'd suggest at least taking it apart to inspect those bearings, then lube them up good, as it's only about 10 nuts to go that much further. Then you've got a good idea and can plan ya/nay for replacement later!

Oh btw, I bet this water has been in there since last year when I drove through some 1.5-2 foot deep water.
