Could a bad TCM Not Allow My E350 to Engage in Any Gear?

Lost trans suddenly under no real load, no debris in pan and was just reading about the TCM - could a faulty or poor connection at TCM literally create a situation where no gear engagement is possible? Anyone know? Thanks!

Did it loose reverse manual 1, manual 2. If you lost those functions, it's mechanical. Not a good sign.

If you lost you lost the gears in (D). it will be electronic.

Electronic end would be the Tranmission Range Sensor (MLPS) could be faulty.

As mentioned, no engagement in any gear range -

Might be the trans main shaft broke. It happened to Oldbull once... Made for a mess too.

If an electronic malfunction occured, the transmission goes into what is called the limp mode, you will still have 2nd and reverse gear. With no movement in any gear, it's a mechanical malfunction or the transmission is really low on fluid. One other cause is that the filter has dropped out of the suction tube. This can happen if a deep pan has been installed or it's a 4x4 and the wrong filter has been installed.

Mechanical Malfunctions
Flexplate bolts to crank have sheared.
Flexplate cracked/broken around bolt circle.
Pump drive shaft broken.
Torque converter to flexplate bolts sheared.
Torque converter to flexplate bolt nuts backed off, allowing TC to move out of the flexplate.
Torque converter exploded internally.
Worst scene.

Thanks - no debris in pain other than normal - it was so sudden and without noise, etc - will be interesting to learn what happened when we finally pull trans, thanks!

Good chance the input shaft broke. They can break clean. No noise no mess.

I have seen this 4 times, twice on a c6 and twice with an e4od. pretty easy fix
