Computer ??????????

My truck is a 1989 f-350 with a 7.3 IDI ......now some people say the truck is computer controlled.

Is this true ????? ... I'm thinkng it does not have one but ..:dunno

If its an auto it will have one for the transmission but thats it. The engine is all mechanical and only requires power for the fuel shutoff solenoid.

Yes... It has a computer but it only controls the automatic trans if you have one... It will be an E4OD and not the C6 trans. The cup gets its feed from several sensors. It feeds from the tach sender, the trans speed control and the tps on the injection pump. The tps switch on the injection pump needs to be set with a digital voltmeter from .96 to 1.2 volts at idle motor not running. At wide open throttle position it will show around 3.9 to 4.3 volts... At no time should it ever send out 5 volts or higher. That will cause the trans to slip into "limp home mode". This overvoltage stops the logic and the trans has reverse and second gear only... So it will "get you home" but the shifts are very harsh. Almost neck breaking...:sly

It will be an E4OD and not the C6 trans.

Just wanted to add that the c6 was still available in 89, my truck had it originally and it has the proper code on the door jamb sticker for it.
