Clutch Rod Compatibility

Hey guys, it turns out I need a clutch rod that goes between the pedal linkage, and the master cylinder.

What years/models am I limited to? I figured any 80s bigblock or diesel will work, but what about later or earlier models? Smallblocks?

I've had a hard time finding a junkyard around here that deals with trucks as old as me, so the selection is limited. It's good to know the one standard Ford pickup in the yard will do!

Check out www.car-parts.com It's a salvage yard search and It'll help you find used parts all over the country. You'ld be surprised what you can find close by.

Might also want to look at the clutch rod mod (heim joint) that was in the tech section.

Is 85 a hydraulic?
If not check your throw out bearing fork.
T had alot of problems with the rod wearing them out.
I always replaced the fork and put a blob of good grease in the divit fot the rod.

I didn't find a rod in the yards this afternoon. Got one more place to check tomorrow, and then it'll be time to order one out of Vancouver/Victoria.

I've taken a look at a lot of E-bay photos, and then 88 and up rods are soooo similar it's tempting for a temporary fix. I found a lot of those year trucks in the yards. It appears the only different is the 83-87 ones have an adjuster, whereas the 88+ ones are fixed in length. Hell, if I have to, I can cut it, thread the two ends, and put a sleeve between them for adjusting.

Don't suppose anyone has any dimensions to compare the 83-87 rods to the later 88+ rods?

Have you checked with Ford to see how much one costs?

With the price of fuel driving around everywhere and the cost of shipping one it might actually be cheaper to get one from the stealership.

Consider buying a new master cylinder too if need be, they come with a new rod for about $70 - $80 at Advance auto parts. I'm sure if you look around you can buy a new master cylinder online for less too.

True that. Evilbay has 'em pretty cheap (shipping and B.S. fees jack it up to normal prices) but it goes to show that it's a viable option need be.

Wreckers first though, we'll see if I can get one locally.
