here's the reason why harsh solvents should not be used.
besides, for $51 or a little higher, just change out the darn thing.

Here in Canada its more like $100 taxes in. And I have heard fellas saying that it should be "serviced" every other oil change.
I might be wise to change it out now but won't want to do that every other oil change.

Diesel does clean. Used to use it to clean bolts a long time ago.

Never had the chance to do it, but if it is that bad, I would replace it. However, I would try if I needed to.
