check valve on filter

on the main filter, which way is the flow on this check valve and what is its purpose?

sorry, the main fuel filter

The flow in the flter is from the outside ring of holes thru the the inside. Same way for the oil filter.

Are you sure about that Gary? I'm pretty sure one is opposite of the other.

I'm pretty sure tis from inside to outside for the 6.9, likely the same way for the 7.3
