A nice little handheld sand blaster. I got some nasty spots on my roof that need some rust removing and i've been wanting to sand blast it but couldn't find anything. So i looked on ebay and found a ton of cool stuff. I think i'm going to take a powerful shop vac and suck up the sand as it bounces off the rust areas so hopefully i won't scratch the rest of the paint all up. Then i'm going to paint it somehow :Sly

Any good ideas on how to paint small little areas. I almost want a small little air brush type thing but don't know what i should do for the type of paint and stuff to use.

At the very least i'm just looking to stop all the progession of rust so when I have alot more money in the future i can just repaint it all and fix everything up properly.

Neet idea. Why don't you fabricate something that will cover the blast nozzle with a round brush kinda like what most house vacuums have yo clean dust off things. We have a blaster at work that does this same thing. It really sucks and blows at the same time. Maybe the vacuum head could be hooked up to a shop vac or something like that.

That's a good idea. Maybe i can just take one we have and drill a hole that'll allow the blaster nozel to fit in and hook the vacuum up. As long as it sucks the sand up after it's done it's work and not right as it comes out of the nozzel. But I imagine with 90PSI on the sand, it will allow it to not just get sucked directly up into the vacuum.

Hey Eric that looks pretty cool! You'll have to report how well it works when you get it and have a chance to try it out. I'm curious how long the 18 oz in the hopper will last at 90 psi? I could think of a whole bunch of uses for it right now! And that's a pretty great price too!

In the FWIW dept we bought one similiar {same design-diff mfr} to try and remove some finish from metal ballusters.........the hopper will give about a minute of use and you better have a strong vac along with a good face shield!

They seem best suited for spot blasting provided you fab up some kind of cone to direct the media and provide a collection hole for the vac nozzle.

You defiantley don't want to try a blast a frame section with one of those that sand goes EVERYWARE

Well I tried out my sand blaster today. It did a pretty good job. It cleans up the area you want cleaned up pretty darn good, but it gets sand/glass beads EVERYWHERE. Luckily i remembered to buy some googles at harbor freight today too. I would have been anhillated otherwise. I got micro glass bead things all over me, basically covered me, got all in my teeth and stuff. I tried using the vacuum nozzel thing with the brush on it for a bit, but then i couldn't see what i was shooting at so i eventually just got rid of it. And I was trying for a while to use a vacuum to suck up the sand as I blasted but it just wasn't having any effect hardly. So i just let her have it for a while then used an air nozzel on the compressor hose to blow it off of everything. Going to hopefully wash it tomorrow after all my paint and stuff is dry.

I got alot of the rust off, but there are just so many little spots it'll take forever to get it all. I just used touch up paint for now to seal the metal. Hopefully that works. It'll defintley give a few more years of protection I think before I have to do that again or until i have enough money to fix it all up correctly.

All in all it worked out pretty well, and tomorrow i'm going to finish sealing up all the little holes and cracks with silicone seal.
