I sink the valves to .060 in the heads.

.040 is the minimum number of clearance.

Is this how much you have to have using the stock cam in order to install yours?

Having discussed this with him previously....

.040 is the minimum Piston to Valve clearance. That should be regardless of which cam, at least the way I understand it. Unlike valve recession required which could vary between the two.

Correct me if I'm mistaken but that's the way I understood it.

I could have sworn that Mac Robb was saying .015". That just didn't seem like nearly enough to me. Right now, I'm hovering somewhere around .030-.032. So far so good.

The cam is a drop and there's been no issues so far. I just figured if some people have their heads off they can create a little more clearance

I was just wanting to know what to look for exactly on my upcoming 6.9 build/swap. I'm hoping to be able to use the cam I bought from you a while back in this engine.

Ill see if i can dig out the ford advertisement manual that had all the differences of turbo vs na
all turbo models had increased webbing, but random n/a blocks had this as well. my 89 stock block had it(justin was blown away by this)
larger oil galley
different valley pan, which aftermarket picked up on and updated to incorporate increased flow
larger wrist pins
anodizing on pistons to prevent edge erosion
Inconel valves,
different balancing on harmonic balancer and flywheel/flexplate due to rotating assembly weight changes
slightly different fuel calibration standards and differing pop pressures on injectors that amount to almost nothing.
there may have been slight differences in headgaskets, but also inconsequential,
overall the only ones that make any difference, balancing, oil galley diameter (may need a reducer/adapter), balancing, pistons have larger wrist pins requiring turbo specific pistons.

The only problem that I have with this is that on all of the Factory Turbo pistons that I've seen that were OEM had about 1/4" around the outside of the piston tops that weren't anodized. Yes, under hard use/abuse, all of the pistons do start to erode at the edges of the tops first. I'm sure that's from not keeping an eye on the EGTs.
