C6 Grinding in 3rd

if the oil pump in the transfer case broke loose,,transfer is going south.. an that sounds like whats happening...get another,,out of a salvage yard

Either way, it sounds like your transfer case will need a thorough rebuild. The symptoms your truck is having doesn't sound like a quick and cheap fix.

Rebuild it because it pops out of gear? Has anyone experienced this before and diagnosed the actual problem without just switching cases? I had no idea the transfer case had its own oil pump to circulate the fluid...

They came with a Warner 1345 until the went to the similar 1356 I think in 88 or so. I have actually had better luck with the 1345 models. Knock on wood.

took a look on the case. It says c-13683 np (new Process) model 208F 261 ratio and its from syracuse new york. Is this still the Borg Warner 1345?

No, its a 208. F for ford, the plastic fork sleeves are gone and not holding the gear train together. sleeves leave when the oil pump goes out or its little pickup tube falls off. IIRC,, been a while since I was in a 208.
