brake controller issues

After three years of towing without brakes I am trying to figure the brake controller wiring out. I have been searching threads but have not found an answer.
My truck does have the 5 pin plug under the dash for the brake controller, but no matter how hard I try I cannot find a blue or a red wire in the harness going to the back of the truck that I can hook into my plug.
Is there someplace to look that I am missing? I have looked all over the back and cut into the loom at the rear axle and at the transfer case. There does not seem to be any blue wire that would control my trailer brakes. The power distribution box under the hood has the proper fuses but is missing the relays. Do I need to splice in there? Any help would be appreciated.
Also when I plug my brake controller into the plug under the dash it blows my running light fuse.
I am tempted to start building my own harness, but figure if ford put the plug under the dash then certainly there is an easy way to make this work right.

the truck harness under the dash has a wire from the clearance lights I think its the lite green wire. your brake control must be wired wrong if its blowing a fuse. the wires to the rear should be there if the truck was prewired. If not run a 10 gauge wire through a 30 amp circit breaker to the rear for a charge line. then cut the blue wire from the control and run a 12 gauge wire for brake power out to the rear for brakes. make shure to run a 10 gauge wire for ground from the frame to the trailer plug. I hard wire trucks like this all the time when the PO shreds the harness

There should be a red or orange and a blue wire wrapped up in the loom at the rear drivers side frame. It's all pre hooked up in the fuse box under the hood for battery and brake.

Thats helpful info. If it should be in the loom it is definitely not there. The PO put in a 4 wire trailer light kit that plugs into the loom and I have pulled the thing apart in several places trying to find extra wires.
Sounds like the easiest thing is to run new wires and splice them in at the dash plug.
@racer 30- I will check the controller wiring. It came with the correct plug already attached so I just plugged it into the connector.

Hopefully this will help someone else out.
THE PLUG FOR A BRAKE CONTROLLER UNDER THE DASH DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN YOU WILL HAVE WIRES IN THE REAR FOR YOUR BRAKE CONTROLLER.
I spent way too much time trying to find the rest of my tow package wiring. I finally traced the blue wire from the brake controller plug back to the firewall. It entered a plug harness that plugs into both sides of the firewall, but there was no pin or wire in the mating harness under the hood so it ended there.
I spliced in there and pulled a fused 12V off the solenoid.
After cussing and fighting with it I did finally remember that I have the original window sticker to the truck in the glovebox.
Sure enough it was shipped without the tow package.

I hope you put a fuse or even better yet, a circuit breaker between the battery and the controller

I guess I wasn't clear in my early post. The cab part of the tow package was in place, so I had a 30 amp fused feed to the plug under the dash from the factory. What I didn't have was a feed to the rear of the truck for charging the rv battery or the brake controller wire. I was thrown off by how half the tow package was there and half was missing.
I did run an inline 30 amp fuse for my charging line from the solenoid to the 7 way plug.
