Book Times for Head Stud Kit for a 6.9?

Anyone have the book hours on replacing head bolts with head studs on a 6.9 idi?

here's the rub.
if you're only replacing the bolts to studs, an engine pull is manditory.
if you are going to freshen up the head gaskets then a pulling the heads is the process you will be looking at.
figure book time on either job and add roughly two hours at the most for the stud installation. time.
ideally, pulling the motor is the best way to do this. irregardless after the studs are installed, the motor will have to come out for any major work.

If I'm going to run a 088 ATS Turbo, at like 8-10psi, with a 4" exhaust and pull a 2 ton trailer, would I need to worry about excessive pressures? I may also do a juiced IP from DPS with Stage 1 injectors.

Or should I just wait until rebuild time to do this?

with 85k on the motor, you're ok for turbo'ing. not a bad idea for doing studs, it's more of a peace of mind kinda thing. yes, it's costly up front, but then again, you have one less thing to worry about.
my suggestion is if you are going to keep the truck for the long haul, do a moose pump, studs and NEW stock injectors that have been flow matched. There's alot of press saying how great "G" code injectors are but no conclusive tests showing a increase in performance.

Your engine is still young unless you do something to kill it or it was maintained badly by the previous owner. I'd say you're in the yellow-red zone for head gasket failure. A new pair of Victor Reinz or Felpro gaskets and even the stock bolts might get you by for awhile with low to moderate boost pressures. If you want Moose or DPS type performance I think you should do the studs after all the 6.9 kit is not that much more than a new set of head bolts and IF installed properly will easily let you make 12-13psi safely, which is the most you really want without an intercooler. As far as book prices I always heard around 16 hours to do head gaskets on a 6.9/7.3 in frame. Calvin says add two more hours to add the studs, fine, he knows his stuff a lot more than I do in fact. 18 hrs at 70/hr could get expensive, how are you with a torque wrench and a cherry picker??

Yeah not a good scene. The guy I bought it from had the engine rebuilt. I should look at the paperwork I have and see conclusively how many miles I can guesstimate. It was done my Dealer's Diesel - wonder if they could look up the block number and give me a date when it was done...

Ok read up on the Moose Pump. Since I'm planning on running WMO/WVO almost exclusively except start and shut I don't the MP is for me.

I'll most likely just have the studs put in next time I get a chance and have my IP checked out along with my injectors here shortly. Maybe turn the stock pump up a bit if it's in decent shape, otherwise I'll replace it and get the screw turned up a bit.

I really have no way of verifying the mileage on this engine. The best I can do is grab the rebuilder's tag number and call them to find out when it was rebuilt. I'm going to bolt on the turbo and hope for the best.

Having a heck of a time finding a used IC for it though....

I'd say 18 hours is the estimate I live by for an in-frame head gasket job.
