It has been in the high 90's around here , Truck runs perfect , Start like a clock , you get the normal puff of smoke outa the tail . but i noticed while it's in park i get random Blueish smoke kicking outa the exhaust , There is no miss when it does that , NO odd ticking from any of the injectors that i can hear but am not an expert either . I know i have slow leaky IP ( I placed white towel under it by the VP and it get damp with time ) going to order one from Mill up in Conestoga down the road. Truck does not do that while am driving but it Soot if i get on it :D

Is this blue is smoke could be related to leaky injector , outa time IP or maybe both ..Or IS IT SIMPLY the NATURE of the beast but i did not recall it was doing that when it was much cooler outside .

you gota love THE Ford always keeps you busy

As a rule blue smoke means oil. As a suggestion at this point I'd watch the oil level, the water/coolant (for both signs of oil and for level), and the exhaust for any indications that it is worsening.

Do you get the same "Blue Puffs" when the engine is up to temp, or only when it's still cold at idle? Your sure it don't HICUP when it puffs. Black smoke is normal when you first get on it for a couple of seconds, any more than that, your timing may be a little retarded by a degree, or the IP metering valve is a little sticky. Have you ever "flushed " the IP with a cleaner, ATF, Seafoam, Howes, Diesel Kleen all that kinda crap?

If the pump is old enough to be leaking, the timing could be slow too. I know that the timing can retard as the pump wears. Sometimes the smoke does look blueish. Word of advice, if the pump's worn out, the injectors are probably just as bad. It's a good chunk of change, but you should get injectors too unless you know for a fact that they are in good shape. I don't regret ordering both a pump and injectors from Mel. Mine sure runs a lot better!

Truck sat for 8 years before I bought it , am sure that IP and injectors are the original

Here is a clip of the cold start , The light bluish smoke definitely present when the truck reach its warm temp/ hot

The light bluish smoke coming out of the tail seems light but then increases for a split sec then fades away followed by another light blue smoke and so on. However the smoke not present as am driving .

Could this be associated to the Tachometer sensor issue which I don't think so but worth asking ( I have a brand new Tach sensor on its way )

Talked to the guys at Conestoga Diesel yesterday , Spoke to Joel and he was extremely helpful, He told me to run a few test on the IP / injectors to determine if it's the one causing the issue or the other as a start, the 1st one to check the timing arm on the side of the IP , supposedly its the timing control arm or something related to the internal timing gear of the I pump .

I know my IP is leaking some but hasn't let me set , I went for a ride so the truck reach it's operating temp , went under the hood with screw driver and fiddled with the arm , From what he tells me on a good working pump messing with this arm will yield changes in the Eng idle . However mine hasn't changed a tick . it idled the same regardless to what i do like this arm does not exist

Yes there is ANOTHER and IMHO a better way to flush IP and Injectors.

This can be done with most any type of leaner but I prefer the one in my tech 101

Go to advanced search and in the sear h field type Tech 101 then switch to title. Below choose my username a d hit search.

There is a ip flush Lubri Moly or some name as that. I dont recall exactly but it is a closed loop flush of injection system and I recommend it for the 35 bucks in flush material.

Hope it helps
