A breaker will allow momentary short circuits until current over the breakers ampacity is drawn, It takes barely any current to start a fire. I see the worry of electricution, tripping, and fire but I would have to say that that risk is negligable compared to the risk of driving on ice getting to work. Inspect your cord, make sure you have proper sized extension cord, remember that if you have to go far to plug in the cord needs to be overrated to compensate
