This axle had no wedge washers. No shoulders on the bolts either. They are the factory bolts with the funny pattern on the head. I'll have to go digging some more.

McMaster has the wedge washers. Typically I have not used a locking washer in a situation where there is a torque spec. These are better than plain old split washers which have a tendancy to squish out.

So east coast gear sells these as an "upgrade" for Dana 60.

$2 a pop. They are approximately grade 9. Available also from McMaster-Carr a bit cheaper.

I'm about to tackle the bearings on mine.

Have you got the McMaster-Carr part #?

So here is the pn for 1.25 inch. I measured my bolts and I'm not 100% sure if 1.5 will work. Need to measure the axle flange close.

I dont like the 12 point, full length threads. Dana 70 ring gear bolts are an upgrade for our diff. When I get new bolts for the dually I may go flange bolts but 7/16 are hardto find. No lockwashers on axle bolts, they will split and fall off.

I have not seen the new dana axle bolts, ill check them out next time im near six states.

BTW.

Go here for special bolts

And read this, they use place bolts there for a reason.

I would love to find shoulder bolts but ARP only has them in 7/16- 20 for flywheel on something. Probably too short anyway. If the 7/16 fully threaded was good enough for the factory, I guess it's good enough for me for now at least. These are at least class 3A fit so not the typical generic bolt. Short of going the stud route which I really don't want to do right at this instant, I'll probably go with these of the correct length and call it good. The places I have contacted about the factory stock bolts want like $7 a piece. That seems excessive when the factory bolts were just fully threaded. If they were shoulder bolts maybe. I'm not super thrilled about the 12 point either Russ but that's what I can find in in that grade. :dunno

Short of pressing a sleeve into the axle to bring it down to the OD of the bolt, I don't know what else you would do. Then the holes probably wouldn't line up on the bolts. Someone out there probably makes just the right thing but damned if I can find it.

I have a quote request in to one of the suppliers.
The 12 point will work, it is stronger, dont be surprised if you pop the heads off if you tow a lot. ,Personal experience, they are too hard.

Thanks for the heads up Russ. I wondered that being that they are grade 9. I know they tend to be brittle. I just started reading those links. Are you thinking about supplying the right thing? I would have never found them.

I will gauge interest, I do know ford is way too expensive.

I'm not talking about a normal washer. It looks like this but is split.

It goes into the axle shaft bolt holes.
