I got a blow 7.3 that donated its turbo to my truck and i pulled the serp belt set up, sending units, intake, some oilers, cam, gears etc. i was wondering if the heads were worth keeping? the crank and block is gone it got windowed by the two loose connecting rods from the shattered pistons.........oops

i tried pulling the exhaust manifold but half the bolts are rusted to far to get and i will have to grind/drill them out. the rockers are gone to (a little story on that one involving a little tyke playing with them in the yard and they lived there a couple of weeks in the rain) but are the heads worth keeping at all.

i dont have a specific use for them and they look good although i did not check them close for cracks. i am wondering if i should make room in my crowded garage for spares, playing with porting or such.

I certainly wouldn't get rid of them. Gut them, clean them up and put them in cold storage. Joe Lewis sure could have used one a few years ago. :dunno

Well.... I'm kinda on the fence about saving or junking them. I prefer to use the new offshore heads because they are thicker in all the right places. Those are the heads I port. I do have 2 sets of oem heads but thats just my spares... You kmow... the just in case heads. The newer heads are a better head than the oem heads. Its really your call. I know somwone sometime will need a set... Its just you having the space and time to keep them.

Jared, about 2 months after you parts ways with them you'll prolly need em.
Murphys law seems to work best that way. If ya have spare parts you'll lessen the odds of needing them. Get rid of em, just like clockwork, sooner or later they will be needed.:dunno

I keep a spare set for myself too.;Sweet

guess i can keep them, maybe dump them in a 5 gallon bucket full of oil to keep them from rusting.

i know what its like to need soemthing right after you got rid if it, i also know what its like to have to wade through all the stuff you "might" need someday.:D
