A friend of mine has a 92ish pickup that was crashed. It had 380K on it when it was wrecked. He says the 7.3L was tired but still going down the road. He wants $400 for the complete engine.

I really don't need more clutter in my garage. Any reason to nab or or let it be?

Always a reason for spare parts....:sly The price is a tad bit high for the miles on it but thats easily fixed. Get the stamped in serial numbers off the top of the block and we may be able to tell you what year the block is. It should have the serpentine belt system on it for that year truck. If it doesn't, then the system was removed for V belts or its not the same year as the truck. With that amount of miles it may have had another engine in it.

92 is v-belt, 93 serp
Price is high... $200 is a fair price, especially if you don't need it...

He's the original owner and said it's the original engine. It does have the serpentine belt on it minus the Alternator. I guess he needed that for something. I don't understand the hoopla ove the serpentine belt setup. I'm perfectly happy with my V-Belts.:dunno

Plus My belts, fan clutch and AC compressor are all new so no need to change anything right now

Serpentine belt is a personal choice. Just like hydroboost brakes. What I find offensive about the V belts I had is the alteranter belt is the one that fials more often than any other. And thats the first belt installed on these engines. So you have to remove all of the belts just to reach that one. Then you have all the adjustments on the belts you had to remove to reach the bad one. A serpentine belt is one belt, a tensioner and an idler. No issues with that. I understand if a serpentine belt lets go you loose everything. So what... If you loose the vacuum pump you loose the power brakes on the vacuum assisted brakes. Both belt setups have their pluses and minus's. We make the choice that fits us... Not others. When I ran the v belts I lost the vacuum belt twice and that was not fun stopping a fully loaded three horse trailer on the freeway.. One would think I was trying to pull off the steering wheel without removing the nut that keeps it on the shaft...

SLAM away....with no vacuum...you'll be like dragging a loose piece of lint on the road on the end of a string dragging behind you....These trucks need vacuum to work those brakes or you better be Lou Fergno or Anold Schwarzeneger...to push that brake pedal hard enough to lock up yer wheels!

Hydroboost is only way to go and if you have V belts...double belt the PS pully....

If you have Vacuum brakes...double belt the Alt/vacuum as I have a single setup....then one to the PS...

When I tried using the vacuum assist brakes on the freeway loaded down with horses and gear I got nothing... But sacred to death having a stiff brake peddle. Steady hard pressure slowly made the brakes at finally. If you guys need to know what this actually feels like find a country road. Remove the vacuum pump belt.. Thats easy. Then run up to 35 mph or more if you have the room. Apply the brakes but know this.... Its like standing on the truck cab floor trying to stop the truck. Steady pressure will make the fluid push the calipers to the pads the the rear shoes out to the drums... Its the front disc brakes that takes all the pressure to operate. Rear drums work easy without assist... How many cars or trucks without power assist brakes have you driven....
