Seriously, though, I know what it's like to sink far more money into a truck than you'll ever get out of it. It's one of life's sad realities.
On a related note I have probably $6K invested in the '84 F250 that sits in my driveway, dead in the water. I hope to get $500.

I sunk so much money into my wife's 300D. Dollar after endless dollar. One day she decided she wanted to buy a trailer and we needed to sell the MB, so I asked for 5k, no bites.... 4k, no bites. Dropped the price to 3500, got a chick who offered me 3k. Sold it. I put probably close to 6k, not counting one minute of my labor into it, and it was beautiful... but in the end it was my fault.
Never expect anyone else to see the value of what you've done. You can't count on that at all... All they see is the stuff that still needs to be done. Like that truck, no miles listing on it so you know it's high. All the usual suspects will be worn, like plastic parts, bearings, bushings, etc...
Every time I list one of these "must be smokin crack" ads I get universally flamed by the "i've sold them for much more" and "it's worth every penny of what they're askin" crowd so I've stopped posting them. Not everyone has my sense of humor, that I can understand (since I am fairly deranged)...
What gets me is the "just putting out the feelers" crowd who are hoping that at just that moment the unwitting schmuck with the stack of cash sitting around collecting dust suddenly feels the inclination to buy someone else's money pit, who write the comments like "don't low ball me" and "I know what it's worth"
They almost always end up pulling the ad and running it later... Or listing it every day in like 30 different cities hoping to find the money-slathered schmuck...

That is why my 1990 F250 is a little "run down". It is NOT worth replacing everything with new parts. I scrounge the junkyard for parts to make it better, but I avoid buying new parts, if possible.
That being said, my truck's condition is improving as time goes on, steadily but on the cheap.

I do not believe you are a looser. I see nothing wrong with spending some money on a "tool" you plan to keep.
But why a guy would spend a ton of money to get a truck 100% right and then sell it, well, is beyond me.

How much would you have invested in a $45000 truck that you trade every 5 years. None of us are losers, by my way of thinking we are far ahead of most people out there with diesel trucks that work everyday for us. Yes mine is down with a blown head gasket and unknown valve condition. But once I spend a few hundred that will be cheaper than a payment on that $45000 truck, I'll be ahead.

I just towed a Titan with a blown rearend back from lake Havasu and my old 86 did an awesome job, she definately loves hard work.
Not only is the guy nuts for wanting 15 grand for an NA 93, he's even more nuts for wanting a Titan!
